Sprint Scores NFL Touchdown

Gridiron glory fans who also own Sprint wireless phones will be in for a thrill as the telephone company announced today they’d signed a deal with the NFL to be the league’s official wireless telecommunications service sponsor. This will bring to Sprint subscribers lots of prime football content offerings.

Under the terms of the five year agreement, Sprint said, they will provide exclusive NFL content and original programming to subscribers. The type of content to be delivered will include audio and video highlights of games, live video programming from the NFL Network, video on demand delivered from the NFL’s archives, fantasy football, ring tones, screensavers, wall paper and polls and contests throughout the season.

Sprint will also be providing wireless voting of Pro Bowl and Super Bowl MVP balloting via text messaging. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“No other sports marketing arrangement comes close to the fan benefits that we’ve achieved with the NFL,” said Tom Murphy, vice president of sponsorships at Sprint. “It represents a clear departure from the standard sports sponsorship, and delivers exclusively into the hands of Sprint customers and fans an entirely new and interactive experience.”

Through the program, State and local public first responders can sign up to receive coverage. Those agencies can actually sign up right now, and will get the coverage if the merger closes in the next year.
