eMachines’ Holiday Line Aims at Pocketbook

Gateway’s eMachines today announced a lineup of price-conscious PC gear explicitly aimed at consumers’ holiday-buying plans, ranging from the $599 T6524 64-bit desktop system with 1 GB of RAM and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 preloaded to the $339 T3104 with 256 MB of RAM, Windows XP Home, a 100 GB hard disk and a CDRW/DVD combo drive. All prices factor in $50 mail-in rebate after purchase. Units will be available through electronics retailers, including Wal-Mart, which will exclusively offer the W4605 Notebook PC at $799 (after $50 rebate!), featuring 512MB RAM, a 15-inch screen, wireless networking, Windows XP Home, and a 60 GB hard disk.

All the new computers systems feature 56K v.92 fax modems and 10/100Base-T Ethernet, as well as bundled productivity software including Microsoft Works 8.0, a 60-day Microsoft Office trial version, Microsoft Money 2005, Microsoft Encarta Online, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Media Player 10, RealNetworks RealPlayer, and AOL 9.0 with a three-month membership. Desktop PCs with DVD-writing capability feature Cyberlink PowerDVD for enhancing DVDs with visuals, the Nero 6 Suite to burn and back up CDs and DVDs, and all desktop systems feature the eMachines Internet Security Pack with Norton Internet Security 2005 and McAfee Anti-Spyware. The W4605 notebook system ships with a 60-day trial version of Digital Image Starter Edition 2006.

The new eMachines 17-inch LCD display is priced at $269.99 (after $50 mail-in rebate!) and offers a 1280 x 1024 resolution with a 450:1 contrast ratio and a 16 ms response time, along with a patent-pending EzMenu onscreen display for adjusting the monitor’s display characteristics and features. A cable clip tucks keyboard, power, and monitor cables out of sight, and the display is VESA-compatible for folks who want to use it with specialized stands or mounts.
