Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga vs. Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2: Spec Showdown

lenovo ideapad yoga vs 2 header pro

Lenovo announced a slew of new products at IFA this year, including its new Flex line of laptops and all-in-ones, five new ThinkPads, and a new ThinkPad Yoga. At the forefront of Lenovo’s newly-unveiled lineup is the Yoga 2 Pro,  a multimode laptop constructed with high-resolution in mind, and the successor to the original 360-degree flip and fold 13.3-inch IdeaPad Yoga.

We applauded the original Yoga for its unique (and sturdy) hinge and multiple modes, overall solid build, beautiful display with wide viewing angles, its responsive touchscreen, and speedy performance. Though we won’t know how the Yoga 2 Pro will actually compare in these areas before we’re able to do a full review, we take a look at how the newest member of Yoga family stacks up against its predecessor when you lay the specs on the line. Check out the comparison table below:

As you can see, the most substantial bump comes in the form of the display. The Yoga Pro 2 nearly doubles the native resolution of the previous model, an astonishing increase of 282 pixels-per-inch, and supposedly holds the crown as the highest resolution currently offered on the market.

The Yoga Pro 2 features the new 4th-gen, Haswell core processor, ramping up the horsepower while maintaining battery life and a price tag hovering just over $1,000. It’s both lighter and thinner than the original IdeaPad Yoga, but still maintains the 720p webcam, touchscreen interface, port offerings, and standard Wi-Fi capabilities.

Check out our glowing IdeaPad Yoga 13 review for a closer look at the previous model and our Yoga ThinkPad vs. Yoga Pro 2 spec comparison to see how the Yoga 2 stacks up against other newly-announced Lenovo offerings.

Lenovo Slim 9i front angled view showing display and keyboard deck.

Lenovo has one of the widest ranges of 14-inch laptops around. Among its ThinkPad, Yoga, and Slim lineups, you can choose from a variety of different prices and features. The Slim 9i is the company's premium consumer clamshell laptop, and the Yoga 9i is its premium 360-degree convertible 2-in-1.

They're different laptops but they share the same DNA. In particular, they enjoy the same new rounded design that debuted on the Yoga 9i Gen 7, which is both gorgeous and comfortable to hold. Is the Yoga's 2-in-1 flexibility the only thing going for it? That's what we'll look at here.
