DXG USA, a maker of digital cameras, yesterday announced a new five-in-one hybrid digital camcorder. The DXG-506V, which the company says is already “heavily pre-orderedâ€, will be available later this month.
The DXG-506V, according to DXG USA, combines a MPEG-4 video camcorder, 5.1-megapixel digital still camera, MP3 player, voice recorder and PC camera into a device about the size of a bar of soap. This camcorder is the successor to the company’s 305V and sports a much larger 5.1 megapixel sensor, a larger LCD screen, the ability to take full-motion VGA (640×480) video and the ability to record in AVI, MOV and ASF formats.
Other features of the new DXG-506V include an expandable SD card slot for up to two hours of video recording with a 2GB SD card, 12 white balance settings and 4 still image settings (1MP, 3MP, 5MP, and 12MP using firmware interpolation), 32MB of onboard memory and USB 2.0 support.
“The DXG-506V addresses one of the hottest imaging trends right now, which is having a single device that captures full-motion video as well as high-resolution photos,” said Jeff Hansen, Director of Marketing for DXG USA, in a statement. “And unlike MiniDV camcorders, the DXG-506V makes it incredibly easy to transfer video files to a computer for emailing or editing by simply removing the SD card and inserting it into a computer. Couple that ease-of-use with a design small enough to fit it in the back pocket of your jeans, and you can understand why this camera is attracting so much interest.”
