Sony on Tuesday announced a new removable hard drive which is designed to fit into Compact Flash type II slots, such as those found on digital still cameras. The Compactvault is priced at $199.99 and expected to be available later this month.
The Compactvault, said Sony, offers ups a storage capacity of 5GB, which equates to up to 1,600 JPEGs (at 3MB each) or 200 minutes of MPEG4 video. It measures just over 1-1/2 inches wide, is less than 1-1/2 inches high and features a transfer speed of 12MB/sec.
“The Compactvault drive signifies a marked advancement in hard disk media for digital cameras, with its increased storage capacity and very reasonable cost,” Mike Lucas, Sony Director of Consumer Media and Data said in a statement.
