Cingular yesterday rolled out a new Push to Talk (PTT) service which will allow subscribers of select phones to communicate walkie-talkie style across the cellular provider’s wireless network. The PTT service is targeted towards both consumers and businesses.
Cingular’s PTT service, which the company says has the largest coverage area in America, uses a single phone number for both cellular and push to talk. Features of this new offering include on screen phone icons which indicate if a PTT user is available to talk to, group calling, conversion of PTT calls to cellular, call waiting, contact alerts when someone becomes available, voice messaging and an alert/instantly call someone back function when one person needs to get in touch with someone else.
“We’ve gone the extra mile to offer our customers an innovative service that truly combines the best features of wireless and PTT, and in doing so, set a new benchmark for the industry,” said David Christopher, vice president of consumer product development for Cingular. “The unique features and attractive pricing offer consumers an overall value unmatched by any other national PTT service.”
