Elan Ships Triple XM Receiver

Elan Home Systems, a manufacturer of multi-room audio/video and home automation systems, recently announced a new receiver component geared towards XM Satellite Radio subscribers. The XM-R3 is priced at $1,550 and should be available through specialty dealers and distributors.

The XM-R3, said Elan, delivers three discrete XM channels to any room in the house and can be accessed by one of the company’s touch panel units, which provides on screen details such as channel name and number, artist name and song title. Each panel can also be customized for one button access to favorite channels.

Other features of the XM-R3 include IR or RS-232 serial communication control, multi output display, multi output presets, parental control locks, channel skip control and an included satellite radio antenna with 20 feet of cable.

The implementation of the XM-R3 represents a great move forward in perfecting Multi-Room satellite radio listening,â€ stated Bob Farinelli, Elan’s President and Chief Technology Officer. â€œElan is renowned for products that easily integrate with each other in order to provide whole house, Multi-Room home entertainment delivery and control. In keeping with this reputation, the XM-R3 seamlessly integrates into our existing line of home systems to provide multiple people within the home the type of entertainment they want – when and where they want it.â€

Netflix will ship its final DVDs this fall

Netflix announced today in its first-quarter earnings letter — and in a note to, well, everyone — that it will stop shipping DVDs on September 29, 2023. That's a big deal because Netflix has had its legacy DVD service all this time — and it's what allowed the company to become the global leader in streaming entertainment in the first place.

"After an incredible 25-year run, we’ve decided to wind down DVD.com later this year," Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos wrote in its letter to shareholders. "Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members, but as the DVD business continues to shrink, that’s going to become increasingly hard. So we want to go out on a high, and will be shipping our final DVDs on September 29, 2023."

Leaked images suggests Sony WF-1000XM5 will be smaller, rounder

If the latest leaked images, courtesy of the Walkman Blog, are indeed the XM4's successors (thus the WF-1000XM5), I think it's fair to say we now have a good idea of what some of those improvements might be.

Though the images are a bit rough due to their source (the Walkman Blog says they're from a certification document, but doesn't say which certification entity published them), a few things are immediately notable -- specifically their size and shape.
