Network Live, a joint venture of AOLXM Satellite Radio, and AEG Live, has announced a deal with satellite television operator DirecTV to bring live exclusive music concerts to DirecTV customers. Network Live programming will launch on DirecTV in March 2006 in both standard and high definition formats, although a “sneak peak” will be available to DirecTV customers in December, featuring an exclusive concert performance from the John Mayer Trio.
The Network Live/DirecTV deal currently allows for two live music series. The first will feature live performances from major artists in large settings, while the other will showcase up-and-coming artists performing in more intimate club-like venues. Network Live also plans to produce comedy and special event programming for broadcast on DirecTV.
Financial terms of the arrangement have not been disclosed, but DirecTV subscribers will have access to Network Live programming at no additional cost.
“The music industry is hungry for new, relevant and meaningful ways to connect with fans,” said David Hill, president, DIRECTV Entertainment. “Our relationship with Network LIVE means our customers will have front row access to performances by the hottest acts from around the world, that can’t be seen anywhere else on television.”
