End to end networking solutions provider D-Link showcased new products at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show which the company says are for enhancing security and entertainment in the digital home.
D-Link’s most major announcement was the new SecureSpot Internet Security Device. This device “provides multi-tiered protection for all networked PCs against viruses, spam, spyware, pop-ups, hackers and other privacy invasions while operating under a single integrated, easy-to-use web-based control centerâ€. It is powered by BSecure Technologies, offers content filtering and can work with PCs or Macs on a network. No pricing or availability information was given.
Also in the security realm, D-Link showcased the new fixed lens 3GPP/ISMA Wireless Internet Camera. This camera will allow users to do mobile monitoring from compatible cell phones. Features on this camera include support of resolutions up to 640 x 480 with user selectable JPEG or MPEG-4 compression rates, support for playback on a network attached computer or media player and a built-in web-based user interface. It supports both static and dynamic IP addressing.
In entertainment offerings, D-Link was demonstrating a new wireless streaming media server. The new Wireless HD Media Server is what D-Link is calling the first ever streaming wireless high definition media/player server with 100GB of built-in storage and a 5-in-1 media card reader. It is part of the MediaLounge device family, sports a HDMI interface, is PlaysForSure certified and can support a variety of media formats including XviD video and Ogg Vorbis audio.
Other interesting products from D-Link in the coming year include a USB phone adapter to connect an existing corded or cordless phone to VoIP provider Skype and a Vonage co-branded telephone adapter which supports two broadband telephone lines.
