CES 2006 Profile: Sennheiser

German headphone manufacturer Sennheiser trotted out several new offerings at CES 2006 designed to support newer technologies like Bluetooth, VoIP and multi-use mobile phones.

First among Sennheiser’s 2006 products is the $329.95 BW900. Available in January 2006, this ultra compact wireless headset uses Bluetooth technology to connect with a variety of compatible devices. Features of this headset include auto adjustment of volume and microphone sensitivity, learnable user settings and a range of up to 300 feet.

VoIP users are targeted next comes with Sennheiser’s new PC 20 and PC 30 headsets. Available in January 2006 for $24.95 and $29.95 respectively, these lightweight units include extended-response transducers and a noise canceling microphone design. They feature ergonomic ear cushions and come with a 10 foot interconnect cable.

Also on Sennheiser’s 2006 docket are the $29.95 and $59.95 MM10 and MM50 mobile-phone focused headsets. Available in January 2006, these units are â€œin-earâ€ style. The MM50 is a sealed design, meaning it is geared towards providing a richer sound while isolating its user from ambient noise. The MM10 is more of an earbud style. Both feature a call/answer/end button and a universal 2.5mm plug to connect to most mobile devices.

CES 2023: This Android phone can send satellite text messages to your iPhone

One of the most remarkable features of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is support for satellite connectivity, allowing users to call for emergency services and send SOS messages when they can’t find a cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Motorola will bring that functionality to the Android smartphone ecosystem within the next three months, according to an announcement at CES 2023. The company has partnered with the British brand Bullitt and will introduce the connectivity perk on one of its upcoming Defy series phones.

To enable satellite communication, Bullitt has created custom connectivity hardware for the phone, which works in tandem with a custom app called Bullitt Satellite Messenger. Again, the idea is to cover zones where users lose out on cellular networks or Wi-Fi coverage, especially in cases of emergencies in remote areas. The messaging part is enabled by Bullitt Satellite Messenger, which needs a subscription service that costs $5 per year.

Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon Satellite at CES 2023, which will be the world’s first satellite-based solution for two-way messaging on premium smartphones and more. Unlike the iPhone 14’s satellite connectivity, which is only for emergency use, Snapdragon Satellite will work for two-way text messaging and some supported messaging apps, as well as emergency use cases.

Snapdragon Satellite is an agreement between Qualcomm and Iridium, and it will be in next-generation premium Android smartphones using the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Garmin will also support Snapdragon Satellite for emergency messaging.

Google gives Android 13 a magic trick for music playback at CES 2023

Android 13 launched last year, but Google is far from done working on it. A new feature announced at CES 2023 makes playing audio from Android devices on Bluetooth speakers easier than ever. Dubbed "uninterrupted listening," the feature aims to make transitioning from listening to audio content on your phone to other devices seamless and intuitive.

Uninterrupted listening gives users notifications on their phones when they get close to an audio device. As you go through your home, you might want to start listening to a song or podcast on another device (like your smart speaker or TV) based on your proximity to them. Listening to a song on your Pixel Buds Pro but walking into the kitchen near your Nest Audio? You'd get a notification prompting you to instantly transfer the audio from your earbuds to the speaker.
