Two new Alcatel One Touch smartphones are all set to launch with T-Mobile in the next few weeks, the One Touch Fierce and the One Touch Evolve. Both are aimed at the lower end of the market, but still manage to offer decent specs and in one case, 4G LTE connectivity. Let’s start with a look at the One Touch Evolve, the smaller of the two phones.
It’s fitted with a 4-inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, and powered by a single-core, 1GHz MediaTek processor and 512MB of RAM. The operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. On the rear of the 11.8mm thick chassis is a 5-megapixel camera, and there is 4GB of memory to store all your photos and media, along with a microSD card slot too. Other features include a 1400mAh battery, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, and 3G connectivity. T-Mobile will want $100 for the One Touch Evolve, or if you want to sign up for a Simple Choice contract, it’ll be $28 up front and 24 payments of $3.
Moving on to the slightly more upmarket One Touch Fierce, which you can see at the top of the page, the biggest advantage is its 4G LTE radio. The screen is larger than the Evolve’s at 4.5-inches, and the resolution is 960 x 540. Inside is another MediaTek chip, but this time it has a 1.2GHz clock speed and four cores, plus there’s 1GB of RAM. The One Touch Fierce retains the Evolve’s 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage, and microSD card slot, plus it also runs Android 4.2. It’ll be sold in either black or silver, and comes with an 1800mAh battery.
Although it’s more capable than the Evolve, the price hasn’t altered all that much, as unsubsidized it’s just $140. Not bad for a quad-core, 4G LTE smartphone with almost the latest version of Android installed.
You’ll be able to pick one of the new Alcatel phones up quite soon, as the One Touch Evolve will go on sale October 5 in selected T-Mobile retail stores, and online on October 16, although a pre-order should be live on October 14. If you’d prefer the more powerful One Touch Fierce, it’ll also be in-store on October 5, but not online until October 23.
