eMagin, a developer of personal display systems, had two new headset display systems announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. One is geared for gamers and home theatre lovers, while the other is targeted towards fifth generation iPod users.
The X800 3D Visor, priced at $799 and available in the first quarter of this year, simulates a large screen experience on a portable display. eMagin compares the experience to watching a movie on a 105†screen in stereo. Features of the X800 3D Visor include drawing power from a USB port, an integrated audio system with stereo headphones and a built-in noise canceling microphone and high resolution (800 x 3 x 600) imagery delivered by two SVGA OLED displays.
Fifth generation iPod users, as well as owners of other portable video player style devices, are the primary target for eMagin’s new EyeBud 800 personal display system. Features of this model include a SVGA display which delivers full color video at 60Hz from handhelds sending SVGA, NTSC or PAL signals, a nearly 40-degree field of view, stereo earbuds with a noise-canceling microphone, a weight of 3.6 ounces, four to six hours of rechargeable battery life and adjustments for either left or right eye dominance.
