Sony earlier this week announced an expanded line up of Trinitron WEGA direct-view CRT televisions. These new units include both HD and standard definition models.
The new HD Sony CRT, said the consumer electronics giant, is the 34â€, 16:9 KD-34XBR970. Priced at $1,199.99 and available in March, this model has 1080i native resolution. Features include various technologies to improve image quality, a built in ATSC 8VSB digital tuner, a built in NTSC tuner, HDMI input and two component inputs.
Sony’s new 4:3 standard definition televisions are the 36-inch KD-36FS170, 32-inch KD-32FS170 and 27-inch KD-27FS170 models. Features in common on these units include 480i native resolution, built in ATSC digital and NTSC tuners and one 480i component, one S-video and two composite inputs, as well as one digital (ATSC) and one analog (UHF/VHF) RF connection. The KD-36FS170, KV-32FS170 and KV-27FS170 models, available in March, will retail for about $1,000, $600 and $400, respectively.
“There’s still plenty of consumer demand for direct-view televisions,” said Tom Evans, vice president of television marketing for Sony Electronics, in a statement. “They provide people looking to step-up to HD television a great value and for others satisfied with standard definition, an attractive price and solid performance.”
