Sirius Satellite Radio earlier this week announced the availability of a new marine weather data service for the boating community. This new offering will be available via a satellite receiver module which attaches to Raymarine’s E-Series multifunction navigation displays.
The marine weather data service, said Sirius, will provide on-demand access to detailed boating related weather information. Coverage includes the 48 contiguous states and waters extending hundreds of miles into the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. Available weather data includes the WSI NOWRad weather radar, featuring storm tracks, sea surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, wave heights, lightning and more.
“This is the first time that Sirius is integrating a data information service into marine electronics products, and we are very pleased to be working with Raymarine to make this service a reality,” said Larry Pesce, Sirius Senior Vice President of Services, in a statement. “Our extensive nationwide satellite footprint, combined with our ability to cover hundreds of miles off the U.S. coasts, makes our service unique to boaters. Our current offering will provide no less then 14 data elements ranging from weather radar to buoy reports. Pricing will range from $29.99 for the base Mariner package to $99.99 for the Professional.”
