Onkyo, a consumer electronics company which produces audio components, today announced they were shipping a new audio/video receiver which is compatible with XM Satellite Radio’s new 5.1 channel surround sound offerings. The new TX-SR504 is priced at just under $300.
The TX-SR504, said Onkyo, is XM Ready, meaning one need only hook a XM satellite antenna to it to receive the broadcast service’s programming. This receiver is also one of the first to market with Neural Sound processing, which means it can broadcast select XM channels in discrete 5.1-channel surround sound. The unit, also capable of receiving AM and FM, has 40 presets.
Other features of the TX-SR504 include color coded 7.1 channel multi-channel inputs, component video switching with three inputs, front panel A/V input, four assignable digital audio inputs, support for a wide array of Dolby and DTS surround sound standards, a dot matrix fluorescent display and seven internal power amplifier channels which deliver 75 watts per channel.
