Altec Lansing Adds New XM Speaker System

Altec Lansing earlier this week announced a new speaker system specifically designed for XM Satellite Radio’s Delphi Roady and Audiovox Xpress receivers. The new XM3120 is priced at $99.95 and should be available now.

The XM3120, said Altec Lansing, lets one park their Delphi Roady or Audiovox Xpress satellite radio receivers in a slot atop the speaker system. The XM31210 sports specially engineered drivers for delivering a wide sound range. It is coupled with bass enhancement technology, eliminating the need for a subwoofer. The speaker system has a contemporary design and compact size as well as coming with a 20-foot home XM satellite radio antenna.

The XM3120 joins the XM3020, which was created for XM2Go receivers.

Ikea and Sonos collaborate on new Symfonisk floor lamp speaker

Ikea and Sonos are continuing their collaboration with a new floor lamp speaker available in January 2023. It will be added to their popular, and affordable, Symfonisk lineup of Sonos-powered Wi-Fi speakers.

The Swedish furniture icon and American wireless home speaker maker began their partnership in 2019 with the original Symfonisk table lamp speaker, and have since added to the range with a bookshelf speaker, a picture frame speaker, and even a second generation of the table lamp last year, all aimed towards the budget-conscious audio fan looking to get in on Sonos' ecosystem of network speakers.

Amazon adds spatial audio to the Echo Studio smart speaker

Along with all of the new devices and services that Amazon announced at its September 28 event, the company said that its Echo Studio smart speaker will be getting an update with new spatial audio processing technology and frequency range extension. The update will initially hit the Echo Studio and Echo Show 15, but it will roll out to other compatible Echo devices in the future.

If you're scratching your head because the Echo Studio already supports Dolby Atmos and Sony's 360 Reality Audio (360RA) formats -- which are both technically under the spatial audio umbrella term -- here's what Amazon says is new with the update:
Our custom-built spatial audio processing technology is designed to enhance stereo sound, making music and movie soundtracks feel closer to the listener with greater width, clarity, and presence. It mirrors the performance of a hi-fi stereo system, so vocal performances are more present in the center, while the stereo-panned instruments are better defined on the side, creating a more immersive sound experience that reproduces the artist's intent. Additionally, frequency range extension technology delivers better performance, improved midrange clarity, and deeper bass.
