CinemaNow to Sell Disney Movies Online

The Walt Disney Company has reached a deal with CinemaNow to sell digitial versions of its movies online on a download-to-own basis on the same day the films are released to DVD. Buyers will be able to transfer the films to three devices like laptops and portable media players, but will not be able to burn the films to standard DVD.

CinemaNow will kick off its Disney digital movie sales June 6 with the Glory Road baseball drama; Disney plans to offer both new and back-catalog titles via CinemaNow at prices basically equivalent to DVDs ($20 per film), with some older offerings discounted to near $10.

The announcement follows moved by Disney rivals in April 2005 to offer films for sale via MovieLink. CinemaNow also offers films from Sony, Lionsgate, and MGM.

The CinemaNow service requires Windows Media Player 10, Windows XP and IE6 (yes, this means films cannot be transferred to Macs, iPods, or PSPs). Since the CinemaNow service involves downloading entire films, a broadband Internet connection is a good idea

European customers can save 10 euros on Disney+ if they pre-order now

Disney's streaming service, Disney+, launched last year in countries including the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand. But customers in other European countries have had to wait for the service to launch in their areas. The service will be expanding to the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain on March 31, 2020, and now Disney is offering 10 euros or 10 British pounds off the price of a yearly subscription for users in these countries who pre-order now.

One the Disney+ website, there's currently an offer to get a year of the service for a total of €59.99 in Euro-zone countries or £49.99 in the UK, which works out to around €5 or £4 per month. Previous pricing was £5.99 or €6.99 per month. Users who sign up before March 23, 2020, will be able to grab this discount.

Although Disney+ just released in November, movies are already disappearing according to Polygon. As early as January 1, some U.S.-based Disney+ users noticed that films had suddenly gone missing from the streaming library without notice.

So far, the list of titles removed includes Dr. Dolittle, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Home Alone, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, The Sandlot, Flicka, Strange Magic, and The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration, as well as The Shaggy Dog and Garfield 2: A Tail of Two Kitties, which were quietly removed in 2019.

Most Disney+ subscribers watch classic Disney movies more than anything else

A new survey reveals what people are watching the most on Disney+, and it looks like subscribers are choosing Disney classics like Marry Poppins and 101 Dalmatians over new content like The Mandalorian.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Morning Consult Poll, 22% of Disney+ subscribers are choosing to watch Disney vault classic movies the most. This is followed by Star Wars at 21%, Marvel at 15%, and Pixar movies at 14%. The poll sourced 496 self-identified Disney+ subscribers from December 3-4.
