Belkin to Offer Wireless 4-Port USB Hub

Peripheral and accesories maker Belkin has announced its new Cable-Free USB Hub, which utilizes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless technology to transfer data to and from USB devices to your computer without a connecting cable. That’s right: you can keep your printer, scanner, hard drives, media player dock, and other USB peripherals up to 30 feet away while you lounge on your couch and connect to them all at full speed over the air.

The Cable-Free USB Hub relies on a USB dongle which contains a UWB transceiver: thus pop the dongle into a free USB 2.0 port and you’ll be able to communicate with the four-port hub. A dingle stand is also included to provide optimal wireless reception. The hub requires Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP or (on the Mac side) Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.

Sound good? The hub is set to be available in mid-December at a suggested price of $199.99.

Apple published details about the feature change in its Big Sur beta 4 documentation, noting that the software brings "support for 4K HDR playback of YouTube videos" in Safari and Webkit.

Even after Apple opened the app doors to Mac users to be able to download iOS apps ported with a technology called Catalyst, there's a notable -- and popular -- title missing: Netflix. Even though Netflix is accessible on a Mac through a modern web browser, being able to run the video subscription service in its own native app, which would have been a ported version that was originally designed for the iPad, could enable additional features to owners of Apple's desktop products, including the Mac Mini, iMac, iMac Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and the soon-to-launch Mac Pro.

For frequent travelers or those who find themselves in areas with limited internet connectivity, a Catalyst-enabled Netflix app on the Mac would have brought welcomed features, like the ability to download movies and TV shows for offline viewing. Another feature that Mac users won't get to experience would be picture-in-picture integration with Apple's platform, according to The Verge.

The days of the GPU shortage are long over, but somehow, buying a GPU is harder than ever -- and that sentiment has very little to do with stock levels. It's just that there are no obvious candidates when shopping anymore.
