DICE stops work on all future projects to focus on fixing ‘Battlefield 4’

Ongoing issues with Battlefield 4‘s multiplayer have led DICE to discontinue all work on its future projects until everything actually works, an Electronic Arts spokesperson told IGN. That includes Battlefield DLC, as well as future games like Star Wars Battlefront, although since there is no release date on that game yet, that is something of a non-issue.

“[We are] not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4,” the statement read. “We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game – it is absolutely our #1 priority.  The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game.”

Four multiplayer DLC packs are planned for release as part of the Battlefield 4 Premium subscription, though the first of those – China Rising – managed to slip out for Premium subscribers this week as scheduled. That doesn’t mean you can actually download or play it, given BF4‘s ongoing issues, but it’s “officially” out for those with Premium access. It’s not clear if China Rising will be available for purchase once the Premium early access period ends, but these ongoing issues will likely prompt consumers to avoid it for now.

According to the EA rep, China Rising was “already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4.” As a result, the publisher “decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week.”

There’s currently no timetable for when these ongoing issues might be fixed, or even any sense of what could create such a universal problem on multiple platforms.
