Sega, Marvel Bring More Heroes to Gaming

Marvel Entertainment and Sega announced today they are teaming to bring more of Marvel’s characters to video game screens. Having already a deal to create titles for Iron Man, the companies have expanded this relationship to create games also based around the Captain America, Incredible Hulk and Thor characters.

In relation to these new characters Marvel has awarded Sega an exclusive, multi-year agreement to develop titles for console, handheld and PC platforms based upon both the classic comic books and planned feature film adaptations. Sega plans to develop a title to be based on the upcoming Incredible Hulk feature film hitting theaters June 13, 2008. Games based onCaptain America and Thor will follow, though the timing of those feature film projects, currently in development, has not yet been determined.

Iron Man, meanwhile, has an upcoming game and film slated to be released in May 2008.

We are excited to broaden our partnership with Marvel, a recognized leader and innovator in the entertainment industry,” said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, Sega of America. “As Sega continues to create games that are built from the ground up to appeal to Western audiences it makes perfect sense to work with a powerhouse like Marvel."

Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam, and more Blizzard games may soon be on the way
Kiriko in Overwatch 2

Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that Overwatch 2 will make its way to Steam on August 10, the same day its next season, titled Invasion, begins.

Overwatch 2 has been available on PC since its October 4, 2022, early access launch, but until now players had to download Blizzard's proprietary launcher, Battle.net, in order to play it. Although players will still need a Battle.net account that they can connect to Steam to play the game online, Overwatch 2 will be fully integrated into Valve's popular launcher, with support for things like achievements, compatibility with Steam friends lists, and Steam game invites. This launch is also timed to happen alongside the start of Season 6: Invasion, which will introduce the first batch of PvE story missions to the game.

A pot full of ingredients appears in Venba.

When I write “cooking game,” I’d bet a pretty specific image comes into your head. Your brain might go straight to something like Cooking Mama, where you need to assemble several random recipes through a series of tactile minigames. That’s become a go-to format for developers looking to adapt cooking into a game, but it’s not exactly what developer Visai Games wanted to do for Venba.

We ranked all the best (and worst) video game system startup sounds
The GameCube startup screen appears mid animation.

First impressions are important. That’s true both in people and video game consoles.

The first time you boot up a new gaming system can be a magical moment when done right. There’s always a built-in bit of tension anytime you get a new video game console, as you gingerly unbox it and set it up. That prelude can feel like an orchestra tuning its instruments, building anticipation for the moment where you’ll finally get to power it on and hear the opening notes of a long symphony. And I’m not just speaking in metaphor here; I’m talking about the all-important console startup sound.
