The phenomenon that is Minecraft will soon be available on another platform, the PlayStation 3, on December 18 in North America and Europe, according to publisher Mojang. The game will be available to download, and cost “about the same as the Xbox 360 version.” (The Xbox 360 version runs $19.99 on Xbox Live Arcade).

Since its release in 2011, Minecraft has gone on to sell over 33 million copies worldwide across multiple platforms. Ports for PS4 and Xbox One have also been confirmed, but no release date has been set for either. An edition for the PS Vita is also on the way at some point.

According to Mojang, the PS3 version will offer everything the 360 version offers, and they are “pretty much identical to play, and will be developed in tandem now.” At the moment there are no confirmed plans for Sony specific content, but it is a possibility. No word yet on it offering cross play on the Vita and/or PS4 editions either, but that could come in the future.

“We don’t know yet, sorry,” Mojang’s statement reads. “We’ll let you know as soon as we do.”

Development of the PS3 port is being handled by 4J Studios, the same studio responsible for the Xbox 360 version, as well as the upcoming Xbox One, PS4, and PS Vita editions.

By all accounts, the PlayStation 5 Pro is a high-tech console that'll make your games look phenomenal thanks to a new custom GPU and machine-learning-based AI upscaling. In short, it'll make performance modes in the most intense games that much better. However, many were put off by the $700 price tag, which is up to $250 more than the PlayStation 5 Slim.

In an interview with IGN, PlayStation senior principal product manager Toshi Aoki explains the reasoning behind the exorbitant price tag, saying that it's worth it for all the new technology you're going to get.

3 new PS Plus games you should try this weekend (September 20-22)
A card battle in The Plucky Squire.

Sony drops a big batch of new games into the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Game Catalog around the midpoint of each month. The latest set of games for the subscription service dropped on September 18, and it was a fantastic group of titles. From games that launched right into the service on day one to ones getting PS5 ports right after an appearance in the critically acclaimed Astro Bot, there are plenty of awesome new games to choose from if you're looking for something to play this weekend on PS Plus. If you need more help narrowing those choices down, I'd recommend these three games in particular.
The Plucky Squire

The Plucky Squire is a new indie game from All Possible Futures, a studio led by former Pokémon artist James Turner. It's a love letter to creatives, video games, and the art that inspires people. It plays around with genre a lot. It'll be a top-down action game like The Legend of Zelda as you venture through a storybook before you're forcing to jump out of the book and into the real world, where it becomes a 3D platformer. It's a brisk 6-hour tribute to creativity that honors everything from The Legend of Zelda to Punch Out and Rhythm Heaven, so play through it this weekend if you can. The Plucky Squire is available through PS Plus Extra on PS5. It's also available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
