Whoa nelly! What a fun away to start your Wednesday. Someone just leaked the images of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI. And let’s just get it started: it’s a thing of beauty.
Subaru teased that it would be bringing its next-gen rally fighter to the Detroit Auto Show next week. And now just about six days before its official unveil we finally see its rally blue skin.
The images, by way of Terra Autos, show a very impressive thing indeed. Based upon the Impreza, just like its little brother the 2015 WRX, the STI has been beefed up and made much more butch indeed. That proud rear wing alone will tell you something very special is going on.
Sadly, we don’t yet know performance figures. But we wouldn’t be surprised to see the WRX’s 268 horsepower 2.0-liter BOXER four-cylinder punched out to 2.5-liter for more than 300 ponies and 290 pound-feet of torque.
For the 2015 model year, Suby brought a CVT automatic to the WRX for the first time in several years. Will the STI see that same automatic option? We’ll have to wait and see. I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if it didn’t. After all, if you’re getting a $37,000 rally sedan, why would you want it to shift itself?
Hopefully bigger pictures and more specs will leak out later this week. If not, though, you can check back here for all the official info as soon as the STI makes it triumphant debut at next week’s 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
