Command & Conquer 3 Expansion Announced

A video game villain first introduced over a decade ago is back for yet another round. Electronic Arts announced on Wednesday that an expansion pack for the recently released Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is in the works, and it will center on everyone’s favorite overacting evil leader: Kane.

Command and Conquer: Wrath of Kane will take players through 20 years in the C&C universe, from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod following the Second Tiberium War, through the Third Tiberium War, and on. The game’s trademark cut scenes will return, featuring Joe Kucan as Kane, the original actor who has played him in every C&C game since the original.

Game-play details were slim in EA’s press release. One feature of note was a scaling element to the game, which will allow players to build bases and move armies on a global scale, then jump down to the local level to command armies locally. Gamers picking up the Xbox 360 version of the game will also get a new radial interface.

“I’m excited that we’re able to go back to the Tiberium universe with Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath,” said Mike Verdu, vice president of EA Los Angeles, in a statement. “This expansion has an impressive new single player campaign, a new global strategic layer that adds depth to the familiar Command & Conquer style gameplay, and several fun, all-new toys that range from versatile combat soldiers to giant armored walkers.”

Command and Conquer 3: Wrath of Kane will ship in spring 2008 in North America.

While this year's E3 is different than previous installments thanks to the move to all-digital, not much is changing for Nintendo. The company has long ditched physical presentations in favor of digital showcases, so it's right at home with the format change.

Keighley previously said that the event would return this year, but now we have some firm details on what it will entail.
