With browsers, word processors, instant messaging clients, e-mail clients and all sorts of other software all tugging at our attention simultaneously, it’s no wonder some people just need more desktop real estate. Planar introduced three new widescreen monitors on Tuesday that will give the multi-taskers plenty of room to arrange their apps onscreen and work as they please.
The PX2611W, PX2411W and PX2210MW offer 26, 24 and 22 diagonal inches of display, respectively. The two largest models have a native WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution, while the smaller 22-inch model comes in WSXGA+ (1680×1050) resolution. Planar claims that even this modest-size widescreen monitor offers 36 percent more space than a 19-inch 4:3 monitor, with its largest monitor offering 82 percent more space – nearly the equivalent of two conventional monitors side by side.
Despite their size, the monitors still manage to snap out quick response times for playing video and games. The 26-inch model manages a gray-to-gray response of 5ms, while the 24-inch model pulls off the same in 6ms. Both monitors come with QuadStand mounts that allow them to extend up and down, swivel and tilt.
Planar did not release the MSRP of its monitors, but they range in price from about $1,100 down to $300 at major online retailers.
