The desktop rig has always been the traditional platform of choice for computer gamers, but that hasn’t stopped a number of companies from packing similar hardware into notebooks for players on the go. Vigor Gaming, a relatively new name in custom computers, announced a line of five new gamer-oriented laptops on Wednesday.
The flagship for their new line is the Atlantis Pro, a desktop replacement with a massive 20-inch WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) screen. It’s powered by an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor with dual Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX processors handling graphics, and a pair of 250GB RAID-0 drives for storage. Not surprisingly, it will set you back $2,799.
Moving down a notch, the regular Atlantis model switches to Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors, shrinks the screen to 17 inches (but with a higher resolution of 1920 x 1200), raises optional hard drive capacity to 750GB and adds programmable gaming buttons. It’s priced at $2,419.
The Artorius Pro shares the Atlantis’ 17-inch high-res screen, but switches to Intel’s Santa Rosa chipset, which is geared more toward power efficiency. It also gets an Nvidia 8700M GT graphics processor and support for the wireless N standard, selling for $1925.
The Ares and Ares Pro fill in the bottom of the Vigor line. They both get Intel Core 2 Duo processors and Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards, but the Pro model also gets 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 120GB SATA hard drive, and a 15.4-inch widescreen WSGXA+ display. It sells for $1,899, versus $1299 for the base model Ares.
All Vigor notebooks comes with 8X DVD+/-R/RW optical drives, built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, TV tuners with optional remote, built-in video cameras from 1.3 to 2.0M depending on the model, memory expandable to 4GB on all models, 56K modem, and Microsoft Windows Vista.
