Motorola Rolls Out Seven W-Series Phones

Motorola Rolls Out Seven W-Series Phones

Motorola significantly expanded its cell-phone lineup on Thursday with the release of seven new W-series phones aimed at the value segment. The W156, W160, W175, W180, W206, W213, and W377 are intended to bring high-end features to lower price points for first-time and beginning cell users.

At the top of the new W line will be the W377, a clamshell-style phone which includes an integrated FM radio and MP3 ringtones, plus VGA camera, Bluetooth capability and preloaded games. The candy-bar-style W213 will get similar features minus the camera, while stepping down another rung to the W206 will remove the FM radio from the feature set.

The W175 and W180 are meant for business, with extended battery life to keep long conversations going (offering up to 590 minutes of talk time), and Motorola’s CrystalTalk voice optimization. The W180 also gets an FM Radio.

Finally, the W156 and W160 were designed for ease of use, with large black-and-white displays and an interface Motorola claims is intuitive. The W160 will get an FM radio, and both models get the same impressive battery life as the W175 and W180.

Motorola has not yet announced pricing for the new models, but the phones will be released in the fourth quarter of 2007.

New Motorola Razr 2023 leaks show the colorful flip phone we need
Four side-by-side shots of the Moto Razr 2023. A new red coloway is visible.

There are only a few major names in the game if you're looking for a foldable smartphone, but the name with the longest pedigree is probably Motorola. Leaks of the new Moto Razr have emerged on Twitter, and while they show relatively little of the phone, it does show off a new outer screen personalization feature – and a new, bold red colorway.

The leaks come courtesy of seasoned tipster Evan Blass (who has a private Twitter account), and he refers to it as the "Motorola Razr 40 Ultra", further fueling speculation that Motorola may release multiple versions of the Razr this year, including a more reasonably priced Razr Lite. As an "Ultra", it would make sense for these leaks to show the more expensive, flagship version of the device and, as such, likely includes features that wouldn't be available on a "Lite" version.

The Motorola Rizr shows why rollable phones are still a terrible idea
Motorola Rizr back.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don’t think the Motorola Rizr rollable phone that has gained so much attention over the past few days is ever going to be anything more than a concept.

There’s no doubt it’s the perfect device to show off at a trade show that's struggling to stay relevant, but if you’re looking at it expecting it to actually be practical to use on a daily basis, I genuinely think you’re going to be disappointed.
I don't have time for the rollable Rizr

Why you should buy the Motorola Razr
While the Motorola Razr isn't one of the best phones out there, it sure has style and offers features that are much more attractive at this lower price. It has a foldable 6.2-inch pOLED touchscreen display that easily folds in half so it can fit comfortably in your palm or pocket. An interactive quick view 2.7-inch display means you can reply to messages, skip songs, get directions, and more, all while the phone is closed so it stays highly portable, while the bigger screen is useful for more time.
