iPhone Mania Hits Britain

At 6:02 pm local time today, the iPhone goes on sale in Britain at Apple, O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores. In spite of the rain and cold, customers began lining up at the Apple store on Regent Street in London fully 24 hours ahead of time.   The iPhone can only be used on the O2 network, and requires a contract costing $70 a month, which is after customers have paid around $540 for the handset itself.   Writing on The Unofficial Apple Weblog, customer Nik Fletcher noted,   “Eventually, we settled down for a night by the store, with people constantly asking us: "What are we queueing for, or why we were queueing at all?" Folks of varying soberness, and sanity (ourselves included there) passed by, including two local community support officers who ensured we were keeping the peace (and of course, play with the iPhone that just happened to be around).”   Meanwhile, NetnamesEnvision brand protection unit has found that 62% of iPhones offered on the UK eBay site were from UK sellers, although the phone has yet to go on sale there, and 70% of those offered for sale were advertised as ‘unlocked,’ according to a report on vnunet.com.   These sales highlight the grey market traders and those selling fake products.   "Consumers need to be aware of the threats posed by counterfeit goods and grey market imports online and make sure that they purchase only from reputable sources," Jonathan Robinson, chief operating officer at NetNames, told vnunet.com.

The latest iPad Air just got a major discount at Amazon
The iPad Air attached to the Magic Keyboard.

If you're thinking about buying a new iPad, you're in luck because Amazon has slashed the price of the fifth-generation Apple iPad Air. The 64GB, Wi-Fi model, originally priced at $599, is on sale with a $40 discount, and you'll get an additional $59 off at checkout so you'll only have to pay $500. That's equivalent to total savings of $99 for the latest version of the iPad Air, but you'll need to hurry with your purchase if you want it because as one of the top tablet deals right now, we're not expecting stocks to last long.

Why you should buy the 2022 Apple iPad Air
The 2022 Apple iPad Air sits on top of our list of the best tablets, and it all begins with the powerful performance provided by Apple's M1 chip. This is the same processor in the 2020 Apple MacBook Air and the 2021 Apple iPad Pro, so there's nothing you can do that will slow down the tablet -- including multitasking between several apps and playing graphics-heavy video games. This speed, combined with Apple's iPadOS 16, makes the tablet a potential laptop replacement, especially if you also invest in the Magic Keyboard and the second-generation Apple Pencil as additional input options.

Your next iPhone may have no bezels. Here’s why that could be a problem

Don’t believe everything you see, but there’s a certain joy in imagining products with a futuristic touch to them. One such fantastical element of the smartphone industry is a truly bezel-free all-screen phone. And as implausible as that sounds, it looks like Apple might be the one to achieve it — and at the biggest scale imaginable.

According to South Korean outlet The Elec, Apple has reportedly asked, “Samsung Display and LG Display to develop an OLED that removes all front bezels from the iPhone.” Apple has been painfully slow at eliminating the bezel on iPhones and continues to sell the iPhone SE (2022), which should ideally exist in an era that is half a decade too persistent.
