Britain Launches Online Safety CampaignBritain has unveiled a new initiative to keep people safe online. Get Safe Online is intended to help and advise the many who leave themselves open toidentity theft by posting too much personal information to social networking sites or fail to secure their home wireless networks.   According to the group’s research, up to eight millionpeople haven’t bothered to protect their wireless networks, and over two and a half million have too much information posted on sites like Facebook.  The government-backed group demonstrated for the BBC how easy it was to obtain information from an unsecured network. In just 15 minutes a trained policeofficer was able to steal personal information and passwords.   "It took just 15 minutes to break into the network but it would take less than that to make the machine safe," said TonyNeate, managing director of the Get Safe Online campaign.   Last year 12% of those who went online in the UK became victims of some kind of fraud, and on average each lost $1750.

OneWeb launches more internet satellites to take on SpaceX’s Starlink

OneWeb is edging toward the launch of an internet service similar to SpaceX’s Starlink, which uses satellites in low Earth orbit to beam broadband from space.

U.K.-based OneWeb confirmed at the weekend the successful deployment of 34 internet satellites, bringing its total constellation to 288 satellites. The communications company said the deployment puts it on track to begin a global internet service in 2022, delivered by a planned fleet of 648 satellites. Before then, by the end of this year, it hopes to launch a trial service in parts of Alaska and Canada.

Amazon to pay customers up to $1,000 in damages for defective items

Amazon will soon start paying customers up to $1,000 if a defective item sold through its site by a third-party merchant causes property damage or personal injury.

The new policy will come into effect on September 1, 2021, and is designed to give shoppers on the online marketplace greater confidence when placing orders with third-party sellers.
