Red (Nexus) 5 is standing by in the Google Play Store; S-Foils are locked in attack position.
An extensive leak at the end of January suggested Google was about to add a whole range of new color options to the Nexus 5 smartphone. Then, days later, a separate leak showed a bright red option could also be joining the more subtle hues seen earlier. Now, Google has made the red model official, giving Nexus 5 buyers the choice of three colors.
Yes, the red 5 is now available in the Google Play Store. Google isn’t kidding by calling it Bright Red either. Judging by the images, this isn’t a subtle color at all. It’s available with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, and the price remains the same across all three, so you’ll pay $350 for the former and $400 for the latter.
If you’re familiar with the Google’s range of Nexus 5 accessories, you may notice the similarity between the new red phone, and the existing red Bumper case. If you already own a Nexus 5, but fancy a new red model, this is a far cheaper and easier way to brighten up your device.
So, does this mean we should expect a deluge of colorful new Nexus 5 phones to be announced over the coming weeks? Perhaps, but why wouldn’t Google release them all at the same time? Drip feeding them to eager buyers is unlikely to be very popular. We’d say the red Nexus 5’s appearance casts more doubt over the accuracy of the initial leak.
