It’s a story that’s shrouded in mystery and an indication of the sophisticated level of cyber terrorism out there. ZDNet has reported that a CIA analyst reported to the San Institute last week that it had evidence of cyber attacks against the infrastructure of several countries. "We have information that cyberattacks have been used to disrupt power equipment in several regions outside the US," said CIA senior analyst Tom Donahue. "In at least one case, the disruption caused a power outage affecting multiple cities." However, the affected areas weren’t named, and the agency admitted that it didn’t know who was behind the attacks or why, although it claimed to have credible evidence of blackmail demands. It’s rare for the CIA to make information like this public.
