Kiefer Sutherland confirms he’s involved in a new Mortal Kombat game

Fresh from his work on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Kiefer Sutherland has let slip that he’s also working on a new Mortal Kombat game. There has been no official announcement that a Mortal Kombat title is in the works — the last we saw of the iconic series was NetherRealm’s reboot in 2011 — but it seems that Sutherland has let the cat out of the bag early.

“I did Mortal Kombat, and that’s such a huge game, but it’s so not like Metal Gear Solid V,” Sutherland said in an interview with IGN. Despite giving no clues as to which character he was playing or what shape the game would take, he did say that he completed his recording “pretty quickly”.

This isn’t actually the first rumor we’ve heard of a new Mortal Kombat video game. At last year’s San Diego Comic Con, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Web series producer Lance Sloane said that developers were trying to find the best time to sync a Mortal Kombat movie and video game for a joint release. The original Mortal Kombat appeared back in 1992.

As for this potential movie, we listed it in the “Sort Of Alive” section of our Hollywood video game adaptations round-up posted earlier this month. Would you be excited about another instalment of Mortal Kombat action? Or has its time long since come and gone? As for Sutherland, his next appearance will be in the Fox television series 24: Live Another Day which airs on May 5th.
