Original Programming Coming to Xbox 360

Microsoft is looking to spice up its Xbox Live online entertainment service with original video programming. According to reports in The New York Times, The Hollywood Reporter, and elsewhere, Microsoft has inked a deal with Hollywood’s Safran Co. to form a new company, Safran Digital, to produce short form, original scripted programming that will appear on the Xbox Live service. Microsoft sees this deal as “the first of many,” with the first shows to debut this summer.

The first spate of shows will be scripted, short form pieces that will probably run under 10 minutes apiece. The initial programming wil cater to Xbox Live’s predominantly young, male demographic, with offerings likely to focus on comedy, horror, and extreme sports. Safran COO Jake Zim has apparently described the on-screen talent as “significant” but declined to reveal any casting deals. Initially, the shows will be exclusively available on the Xbox 360 network, but may eventually appear in other venues. Neither company has disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

Safran Co. was founded by Peter Safran and Jake Zim after leaving Brillstein-Grey Management. Peter Safran recently produced Meet the Spartans for Fox and New Line Cinema’s Over Her Dead Body; Zim helped launch online video site Hulu and has worked in digital promotion of horror films.

How to program an RCA universal remote
RCA universal remotes.

Keeping up with the bevy of remotes in your audiovisual stockpile is never an easy feat, especially when you need three of them (or more) just to be able to watch a show on Netflix or a Blu-ray movie. Fortunately, there's an inexpensive way to consolidate your remote control count (and/or replace a lost remote), with an RCA universal remote. The company makes several universal remotes that you can program for use with TVs, DVD players, VCRs, cable boxes, and the latest streaming devices such as Apple TV and Roku.

Shiny Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro come inside their own Space Capsule
The open Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro case, showing the earbud placement.

We’re used to seeing earbud cases with flip tops, and we’ve even seen ones that come inside a cylinder, but the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro have a slightly different take. They come inside a cool, unusually styled case Xiaomi calls the Space Capsule, where the top opens to reveal the earbuds ready for you to pluck out frontwards. It’s a subtly different approach that’s eye-catching and different. Go beyond the initial experience, and what do you get with Xiaomi’s latest earbuds? We’ve got all the details.

Inside the shiny case -- which comes in either the silvery color in our photos or a bling-tastic shiny gold -- the earbuds look superb with their swooping lines and polished casing that glints in the light. Each one is magnetically held in place and is easily removed for use. However, while the case itself looks brilliant, it can be a pain to open due to its smooth surface and lack of anywhere to hook a fingernail in.

These Fruity Pebbles earbuds are a cereal junkie’s dream come true
Fruity Pebbles-themed JLab Go Air Pop wireless earbuds.

You know what we don't get enough of these days? Headphone companies doing collaborations with sugary breakfast cereal brands. Thankfully that conspicuous absence will soon be filled by JLab and Post, with two special edition sets of Fruity Pebbles-inspired products: The $35 Go Air Pop, and the $30 JBuddies Studio.

These Flintstones-themed devices will be available directly from the JLab website starting on March 7, which is National Cereal Day -- but you knew that already, didn't you? JLab provided no rationale for why it chose to engage with Post Consumer Brands on this partnership, but it's a good bet that the company has been keeping close tabs on Skullcandy -- its closest competitor -- and its recent collaborations with Doritos on earbuds and gaming headsets.
