Broadband Penetration Rises By 300 Pct

Broadband Penetration Rises By 300 PctSome 49 percent of US households using the Internet currently have a broadband connection, according to a report from Scarborough Research. That’s upfrom 12 percent back in 2002, or a rise of  300 percent.   DSL has experienced the greatest rise, of 575 percent, but cable has also enjoyed significant growth. The biggest broadband marketis San Francisco, where 62 percent of adults are in households with broadband connections.   But rather than rest on out laurels, we should look to the future. Broadband has become mainstream, said Gary Meo, senior vice president of digital media services at Scarborough Research. But looking ahead is vital.   "There is obviously an increasing need for more high-speed internetconnectivity as it enables fast and efficient delivery of rich media content. Consumers are clearly demanding more speed in order to upload, download, post and interact with content in a Web 2.0environment."   And not everywhere is up on the cutting edge.   “Despite broadband usage growing into a mainstream phenomenon nationwide, there are still markets that lag thenational average,” noted Meo. “These markets tend to be concentrated in the South and Southwest.”

Halo Rise vs. Nest Hub 2nd Gen: comparing sleep tracking and features
Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen sleep tracking

Sleep tracking has changed a lot in the past few years. For a long time, the only way to get sleep-tracking info was by placing your smartphone on the bed. Then, smartwatches and fitness trackers brought the technology to our wrists and also added accuracy to the evaluation. But plenty of folks don’t enjoy wearing a device to sleep, so another new generation of sleep-tracking devices is able to offer the same levels of data, information, and insights by placing devices on your nightstand. We're going to compare the sleep features of two popular smart home devices.
Halo Rise versus Nest Hub 2nd Gen: comparing sleep tracking and features
In this post, we’ll look at a couple of these table-top sleep trackers: The brand new Halo Rise from Amazon and the Google Nest Home Hub Gen 2, which has been around for a year or two.
Design

The Google Nest Home Hub Gen 2 is a small tabletop digital assistant display that has a speaker at its base, with the upper portion being a 7-inch touchscreen. Halo View is a newer device from Amazon, where the top portion is a large plastic oval with an integrated light bar that sits on a small metal base/stand. Halo Rise has no screen and only shows you the digital time; there are no other visible metrics available on the device. The Nest Home Hub looks like more of a purpose-built device, while the Halo View seems a little more utilitarian.

Poor sleep is a problem plaguing a lot of people. Little interruptions, whether it's your partner turning over, a cat jumping onto the bed, or any one of a dozen other things can impact how refreshed you feel when you wake up. The new Amazon Halo Rise will help you get a better night's sleep by breaking down information about everything from your sleep itself to the environment around you.

Announced as part of Amazon's fall device event, the Halo Rise looks a bit like a ring light, but combines the functionality of a sleep tracker, smart alarm, and wake-up light in one. Onboard AI learns the users' sleep stages and details information about temperature and humidity in the room, as well as light levels. One key thing to note is that there's no microphone or camera on the Halo Rise; while it can be paired with Alexa, it's built with privacy in mind.
