Dell To Give 25 Pct. Power Cuts By 2010

It’s a big goal, but computer maker Dell is convinced it can lower power consumption in its desktops and laptops by 25% in the next two years – and has even stated its aim publicly.

The company has been making green claims, and, if successful, this will certainly add to them. It plans to accomplish the power reduction through a combination of more efficient fans, an improvement in power management systems and circuit design. It also plans to work with outside suppliers to cut their power use.

"Our customers are inspiring us to address the environmental challenges facing our planet. We have listened to them and are designing next-generation technologies that dramatically reduce energy consumption, drive meaningful cost savings and help achieve a low-carbon economy. It is the right thing for our business, our customers and our shared environment."

Dell was the first computer manufacturer to join Climate Group, a government and industry collective pledged to fight global warming.

Dell cut the price of this XPS 15 laptop by $400 today
Dell XPS 15 front view showing display.

We’re always on the lookout for laptop deals, and we unearthed a promotion that’s only good for a limited time. Dell has chopped the price of one of its most popular portable workstations, the Dell XPS 15 Laptop. Usually, this Windows PC goes for $1,500, but you’ll be able to take it home for just $1,100. That’s an awesome $400 discount!

Why you should buy the Dell XPS 15
The XPS 15 is one of the most popular laptops on the market, right up there with the Apple MacBook Pro (we found some great MacBook deals this week too). This particular version of the computer is sold with an Intel Core i7-13620H with integrated Intel Arc Graphics A370M. These core peripherals are powered by 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. On paper alone, this is an incredible laptop, but it’s the performance that’s going to win you over.

This Alienware gaming laptop just got a $650 price cut at Dell
Doom Eternal running on an Alienware x14 R2.

If you're the type of person who travels a lot and doesn't want to deal with having a large gaming laptop take up space and weight in your bag, then you'll be happy to know that there are some great alternatives. For example, this tiny 14-inch Alienware x14 R2 is a solid gaming laptop that's great for carrying around, and it's got a solid GPU under the hood, so you aren't falling totally behind in gaming. Even better, Dell has discounted its usual $2,150 price tag down to just $1,500, which is a massive $650 in savings.

Why you should buy the Alienware x14 R2
The beating heart of any gaming laptop is the GPU, and you'll be happy to know that the Alienware x14 R2 comes with an RTX 4060, which is a very solid 1080p GPU. Of course, that does pose a bit of a problem given that the 14-inch screen runs a 2560 x 1600 resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, and while you can hit the maximum of either, you can't do both. Even so, if you're the type of person who likes to play both competitive and fast-paced games, as well as more narratively driven stuff, it gives you a lot of leeway in figuring out what graphical settings work best for you, which is always a nice thing to have.
