IE8 Has Two New Security Features

Microsoft is addressing security issues in the Beta 2 issue of its new IE8 browser, which is due next month.

Smart Screen is a filer, based on the Phishing Filter in IE7, and designed to screen out known phishing URLS, but with improved ability to analyze entire URL strings for phishing detection.

The new beta will also have a feature warning users when they’ve downloaded from a site that’s passing malware.

There should also be a filter to prevent type-1 cross-site scripting attacks. These happen when a page from a malware site is swapped with a page from a compromised site without the user knowing.

First Intel Arc graphics card has two key features to compete with Nvidia and AMD

Intel finally pulled back the curtain on its first graphics card and the Intel Arc brand, which it will use for all future enthusiast graphics endeavors. The first generation of cards is code-named Alchemist and is set to launch in the beginning of 2022. Outside of the fact that the cards exist, Intel revealed that they have two key features to compete with AMD and Nvidia.

The first card, formally known as DG2, will support real-time ray tracing and "A.I. accelerated super sampling." We're not sure how the supersampling works at this point, but it sounds a lot like Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology. Nvidia's tech works by training an A.I. model with game images and then employing the supersampling algorithm on RTX graphics cards with dedicated Tensor cores.

Microsoft Edge has a new ‘Kids Mode’ with safe browsing features

Microsoft Edge is getting a new feature designed to keep kids safe and also ensure they still have fun when browsing the web. Known as "Kids Mode," the feature is currently in beta testing in the Canary and Dev channels of the Edge Insider program and brings customized themes, child-friendly content on the New Tab Page, and other web safety guardrails to the Microsoft web browser.

As the name of the feature suggests, Kids Mode in Microsoft Edge is all about kids themselves, but is also designed around the concerns that parents might have when trusting their children on a web browser. Kids Mode targets two age groups: five to eight, and nine to 12.
