Hulu Gets Jump On Fall TV

If you really can’t wait to see the season premieres of your favorite TV shows, then you might want to go to Hulu, the online TV venture created by NBC and News Corp.

Popular shows from both NBC and Fox will get an early online airing, including Bones, Prison Break, 30 Rock and Chuck.
Given that some believe Hulu’s ad revenue could soon pass that of YouTube, it’s not surprising it’s being given a hefty push with new episodes of popular shows.

Rebecca Harper from Hulu wrote on the company blog:

“To help you keep track of all the series debuts and season premieres coming our way, we’ve posted the Fall Premiere Lineup with a schedule and links to all the shows. Looking for a little background on a series? The list points you to recaps, sneak previews and full-length episodes from previous seasons whenever they’re available.”

ISS gets a new research platform, Bartolomeo, attached to its exterior

The International Space Station (ISS) will soon be receiving a new research platform, Bartolomeo, which will play host to both scientific and commercial projects. Created by Airbus and hosted by the European Space Agency (ESA), the platform is heading to the ISS aboard a SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft this weekend.

The platform provides an unpressurized environment with a good view of the Earth, not blocked by the ISS's solar cells. It will draw power from the station's Columbus module which is then distributed across the platform via 12 interfaces, providing power to the experiments or equipment on the platform. One interface can be operated by robot, similar to the Columbus module.

The talented engineers behind the likes of Atlas and Spot have also been working diligently on Handle, a highly versatile wheel-based robot designed for handling boxes weighing up to 33 pounds (15 kg), whether in a warehouse or for loading and unloading trucks and shipping containers.

Airplane Wi-Fi could get a massive upgrade in the near future

If planes were as reliable as in-flight Wi-Fi, we’d never get on a flight again. Fortunately, industry group Seamless Air Alliance is working to change that. The group operates under the mission of bringing “industries and technologies together to make the in-flight internet experience simple to access and delightful to use.” Its idea? To get rid of the toxic brew of current proprietary systems operated by each airline and instead establish a standard for in-flight Wi-Fi that can be flexibly swapped in and out to better allow airlines to respond as technology improves.

“The goal of the Alliance is to deliver high-speed, low-latency 5G quality access inside the plane,” the FAQ section of the group’s website states. “Access to the network will be seamless, meaning any enabled user device will work without any login, sign-on or other activities. The internet experience itself will be as good as, and in many cases better than, the home experience, including low latency, high speed, and a gate-to-gate continuity of service.”
