Nokia Profits Fall By 28 Percent

Mobile phone handset Nokia has released its third quarter figures, and the news isn’t good. Although year-on-year sales have fallen just 5%, the quarterly profits have tumbled 28%, with year-on -year operating profits down 21%.

The fall in profits would seem to be due to a fall in the average selling price of handsets, due both to the weaker dollar and a greater demand for lower-priced handsets. The company sold 310 million handsets in the period, up 8% from last year, but with 7% les value.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, Nokia’s chief executive, said:

"As a result of our strong operational management and market position, Nokia was able to achieve solid margins and operating cash flow of €1.3bn for the third quarter of 2008. With our scale, brand, improving product portfolio and low cost structure, we believe Nokia is well positioned for the current times."

Nokia’s global market share dipped slightly, to 38%. The company expects its market share to remain steady or rise slightly in the next quarter and still expects the mobile phone market to grow.

Simple beginnings
Let's start with a short history lesson. The P9 was the first Huawei smartphone to feature Leica’s branding on the back. The two 12-megapixel cameras were codeveloped with the camera experts, and Leica had a hand in creating the software for the camera app, too. It immediately felt like a collaboration. Something special — not a boring marketing tactic. Then came the Mate 9, the P10, and the P10 Plus, refining the formula before the Mate 10 Pro and P20 Pro arrived in 2018.

HTC shared a tweet on Thursday, June 9, teasing a new phone dedicated to the metaverse — specifically, HTC's own "Viverse." The official teaser poster shows the shape of the phone with rings extending further back from the screen like eternal mirrors.

Nokia’s ‘3-day’ phone battery struggles to last the weekend

“Three-day battery life. A long-lasting battery and more processing power to take you through the weekend.” These are the exact words on Nokia’s website for the Nokia G11, and a serious selling point for the cheap Android phone. But is it an accurate statement? I’ve spent nearly a week with the G11 to find out, and unfortunately, it seems Nokia may be overselling the phone’s capabilities.
Three-day battery?
The claim comes with a caveat on Nokia’s website, but rather than undersell the statement, the clarification at the bottom of the page gives you even more confidence the G11’s 5,050mAh battery will make short work of a long weekend. It states:

“The three-day battery testing was conducted using a real-life usage test by HMD Global. The test included active usage of a device for five hours per day with a new battery. Usage included gaming, video streaming, calling, sending SMS, browsing, and using apps such as social media, news, navigation, and music. The test was conducted with normal device settings in a lit indoor environment. The device was left on standby overnight.”
