Kodak OLED Breakthrough Extends Lifetime

Kodak OLED Breakthrough Extends Lifetime

After pioneering research into OLED displays for decades and unveiled its first OLED consumer product last month, Kodak took one more step forward in the industry this month with the development of a new material that will extend the lifetime and efficiency of OLED displays.

The material, known internally as EK-GD403, uses “green dopament” technology to control color output and boost efficiency in OLED displays. Used in conjunction with Kodak’s other OLED materials, the company has been able to use EK-GD403 make hyper-efficient green displays with lifetimes of 65,000 hours.

“In addition to display screens, Kodak’s new green dopant can be used to boost the efficiency of solid-state lighting applications, and reinforces Kodak’s environmental stewardship by enabling future devices with lower power consumption and longer lives,” said Dr. James Buntaine, CTO and vice president of Kodak OLED Systems, in a statement.

LG is one of the best TV brands for OLED but it's also worth considering Sony, and Samsung, although the latter is relatively new to OLED.
