Samsung’s ‘Experience’ stores open in jolly ol’ England in time for Galaxy S5 launch

samsungs first experience stores open england samsung

Here in the United States, Samsung has a retail presence in the form of the Samsung Experience Shop. Set in a dedicated space in Best Buy locations, these areas are adorned with Samsung products and dedicated staff. While Samsung has retail stores to call its own in Europe, they have yet to open in a market similar to that in the United Kingdom, until now. Today, the world’s largest phone maker opens its first retail stores in jolly ol’ England.

The stores opened in London, Newcastle, Liverpool, Bradford, Bristol, Manchester, Bournemouth, and Cardiff. Carphone Warehouse will operate the Experience stores for Samsung, which plans a total of 60 Experience stores across Europe in the following months. Samsung already opened 19 stores in Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, and Ireland in recent weeks.

Carphone Warehouse CEO Andrew Harrison seems pretty excited about the news: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Samsung as its preferred European partner for its experience store rollout,” said Harrison. “In line with the launch of the brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 this week we’re opening the first U.K. stores, including one in the heart of London’s shopping district on Oxford Street.”

Samsung must be a believer in good timing, because the company’s upcoming flagship handset, the Galaxy S5, is set to launch in a matter of days. Apple already has a well-established retail presence in the form of Apple Stores, so it’ll be interesting to see how many people visit the Samsung Experience stores.

There’s no word on whether we will see these stores make their way to the U.S., though don’t be surprised if that’s what ends up happening.

3 reasons I’m disappointed by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 with its main display open.

During its Galaxy Unpacked July 2023 event, Samsung dropped a bunch of new products for everyone — from next-generation foldable phones to new wearables and a diverse range of tablets. One of the new device reveals was the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which has been expected along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Though I’m still fairly new to the scene of foldables, I have seen the appeal — and in some cases, I prefer the form factor over the standard glass slab that most phones are nowadays. But honestly, there isn’t a lot with the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 that’s drawing me in. Instead, it’s a bit underwhelming.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 vs. Google Pixel Fold: best folding phone for 2023?
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold renders next to each other.

In the foldable smartphone arena, there’s little doubt that Samsung has become the heavyweight champion. After all, it’s had nearly four years to refine the experience, and it hasn’t been shy about doing so in public. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 proved that Samsung’s design was ready for prime time. Now, it’s refining that with the new Galaxy Z Fold 5, a worthy successor that delivers some nice quality-of-life improvements and even more power under the hood.

Samsung may be the foldable smartphone maker to beat, but another notable contender threw its hat into the ring this year. Google entered the market this spring with its own unique take on foldable designs that borrows from its successful seven-year run with the Pixel series.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 price: here’s exactly how much it costs

Samsung just held its latest Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea, and it had a whole slew of new products to unveil to the masses. We have three new Galaxy Tab S9 tablets, the Galaxy Watch 6 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is sure to impress with an all-new 3.4-inch cover display that Samsung has called the "Flex Window." You can access some new widgets from the Flex Window, including a multi-widget view for more at once, and even run apps on the cover display (with some caveats). The Z Flip 5 also has a new Flex Hinge that looks aesthetically pleasing and provides a solid foldable experience. The cameras are also slightly better, with a new lens coating that should cut down on unwanted lens flares.
