On-demand services are all the rage right now, especially in the domestic services industry. It used to be that if you wanted to hire somebody like a maid or a plumber, you’d hit up your local yellow pages to locate someone to perform those services, give them a call, and set an appointment. But that was the old model, and today there’s a growing number of startups that are hoping to disrupt it by offering fast, same-day household services at the push of a button.
One of the fastest-growing companies in this category is Handybook — a NYC-based startup that bills itself as “the easiest way to book home services.” Using the company’s dead simple mobile app or website, users can book a pre-approved professional cleaner or handyman for practically any household task. All you need to do is tell the service what you need to get done, where you live, and what time works best for you. Handybook figures out the rest from there.
The service is already on the ground in 13 different cities across the U.S., including New York, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Seattle, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
With that many major cities in its territory, Handybook already has a slight leg up on competitors like HomeJoy and HouseCall, but it’s looking to expand even further. Earlier today the company announced that it’s making services available in a dozen more cities, including Baltimore, Austin, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, Portland, San Jose, Sacramento, Tampa, and Orlando. It also includes Toronto, which will be Handybook’s first market outside the U.S.
Altogether, Handybook will now be available in 25 different markets throughout North America – which is pretty impressive when you consider it didn’t even exist two years ago.
