LG has announced its first smartphone featuring its Quad HD resolution screen, which means a 2560 x 1440 pixel count, but it’s not the highly anticipated G3. Instead, it’s the Isai FL, and the phone is an exclusive to the Japanese network KDDI. The announcement comes almost immediately after LG revealed the screen had passed through NEMKO, the international testing and certification board based in Norway.
The press release states the Quad HD screen, which measures 5.5-inches, would soon be unveiled to the public on its forthcoming flagship phone. We took this to mean the G3, but KDDI and the Isai FL have leapt up and stolen the G3’s thunder. Just because the phone has been announced though, doesn’t mean it’s on sale just yet. The Quad HD screen is only just about to go into mass production.
The Isai FL could give us a solid idea of what the G3’s final specification and design will be like. The 5.5-inch Quad HD screen is joined by a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front camera, Android 4.4 KitKat, and a 3000mAh battery. The processor is kept secret in KDDI’s documentation, but the phone does have 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space.
According to the spec, the Isai FL is waterproof, which bodes well for the G3, and can connect to 4G LTE networks. LG’s Knock Code software is included, along with some new gesture controls, and the volume controls are mounted on the phone’s rear panel. Around the front, you’ll notice the super thin bezel. LG says the Quad HD screen has a 1.15mm thin bezel, and is also only 1.2mm thick. The Isai FL isn’t super slim though, measuring 10.5mm thick, and weighing 160 grams.
We’re expecting LG to show off the G3 at an event in London on May 27, so we don’t have long to wait until we get our own Quad HD smartphone over which to lust.
