LG’s G Pad tablet range is growing with new 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch slates

Read out reviews of the LG G Pad 10.1 and LG G Pad 7.0.

LG has pre-announced a set of three new tablets in its G Pad range, which will be properly revealed over the next few days. The Korean firm is a fan of drip-feeding us information on new hardware, and did the same with the phones announced during Mobile World Congress, just don’t expect too much detail right now.

What we do know is the sizes in which the new slates will come. The smallest is the G Pad 7.0, which has a 7-inch screen, then comes the G Pad 8.0 with an 8-inch screen, and finally there’s the G Pad 10.1. We’re going to let you guess the size of its screen. The three new entries join the G Pad 8.3, which launched at the end of last year, and marked LG’s return to the tablet market after several year’s absence.

Normally, we’d now talk about the screen resolution, processor, and storage space inside each tablet. However, LG has decided to hold all that back for now, and says in the press release the specifications will be discussed “in the weeks ahead,” along with the final release schedule. We do know each tablet runs Android, and that Knock Code will be installed, along with a new version of QPair. This app lets you connect your smartphone to the tablet using Bluetooth, allowing notifications such as incoming calls and messages to be shown on the screen.

The official images you see here also confirm at least the G Pad 7.0 will come in blue, with white and black color options available on the larger G Pad 8.0, and G Pad 10.1.

It seems LG’s gunning for Samsung’s dominance in the Android tablet market, buoyed by the response to the G Pad 8.3, with these new devices. It’s going to be quite a battle though. Samsung has already announced several new tablets this year, and more are probably on the way.

Before we can speculate on LG’s chances, we’ll need to know a lot more about the line-up. LG says it will be displaying the new tablets at the MedPI 2014 trade show in Monaco from tomorrow, so new details could be confirmed over the coming days.

I record interviews for work. These are my favorite free recorder apps

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.

Google Pixel Tablet just got its first big discount and it’s worth a look
Google Pixel Tablet on its charging dock.

Tablets are a dime-a-dozen these days, with offerings from all the great brands including Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, and more. So, if you really want to stand out in a sea of similar tech, you need to do things a little differently. That's what Google's Pixel Tablet offers. How? It comes with a unique speaker dock that can be used to both charge the device and offer room-filling sound -- almost like a smart speaker add-on. Better yet, when your Pixel Tablet is docked it benefits from the Hub Mode, turning the device into a smart display, with digital photo frame support, smart home controls, and hands-free Google functionality. Of course, it could set you back at full price, normally $499 unless you find it included in a roundup of the best Google Pixel deals. Well, guess what? Thanks to a Best Buy Google Pixel Tablet deal, you can get it today for $439 and save $60. Hurry, though, it's part of Best Buy's recent 48-hour sale so it won't stick around for long.

Why you should buy the Google Pixel Tablet
Okay, okay, so in our Google Pixel Tablet review, Joe Maring did give it less than stellar remarks, but he called out its reliable fingerprint sensor, comfortability during use and excellent speaker dock. Honestly, how many tablets come with a matching speaker dock that transforms the entire experience? This tablet also marks a "lot of firsts" for Google, as it's the first tablet from the company in nearly five years, the first Android tablet in eight years, and can be converted into a smart home display with the speaker dock. All of which are notable milestones.
