Microsoft is set to debut MarketPlace, its version of Apple’s hugely successful AppStore, this summer. And yesterday it released a list of the kind of apps that it won’t be accepting.

It includes apps over 10MB, anything connected with VoIP (and any apps that sell, link to, or promote voice plans), as well as those that change the default browser on the user’s computer, according to Vnunet.

Also banned are apps that let users use others app stores and those using location-based software to give the user’s position without his specific consent. All ads on apps have to be approved first by Microsoft.

The company has just opened up to outside developers, who must pay $99 to submit up to five apps a year. They’ll receive a 30% cut of the sale price of the app. That compares very unfavorably with the 70% developers get from Apple.

The first generation Microsoft Surface Duo was released more than two years ago, and after a series of software updates, it’s become one of my favorite pocket-sized gadgets for fun and productivity.

Let’s be clear from the start: The Surface Duo is a miserable smartphone, despite the fact that it snappily runs a fairly recent version of Android. It’s awkward to make and receive calls. The camera is a blurry mess.

LG’s doomed Rollable phone appears on video to show us what we missed

At CES 2021, LG wowed us with a short teaser of its innovative Rollable concept phone. Unfortunately, the company shuttered its smartphone division, and with it, plans of launching its rollable display phone were also put on ice forever. However, the LG Rollable has now been detailed in a video, complete with a market-ready retail package.

It appears that the phone was unceremoniously canceled right at the cusp of a public launch, which is a shame and a huge loss for phone enthusiasts. The LG Rollable had a lot going for it. The top and bottom edges have rail-inspired sliding mechanisms that extend/shrink the frame to reveal/hide the extra screen real estate.

The OnePlus Nord Watch has appeared, and it looks a lot like the Apple Watch

OnePlus ventured into the smartwatch space with the launch of the OnePlus Watch in April last year. The watch wasn’t optimally smart, as instead of Google’s Wear OS, it ran OnePlus’ own custom operating system based on RTOS. Now, as per some new leaks making the rounds, another wearable from OnePlus running its custom OS is in the works. And this time, it'll be launched under the Nord lineup.

Dubbed the "OnePlus Nord Watch, "the wearable is expected to be priced cheaper than the OnePlus Watch. A few leaked screenshots of the N Health App – supposedly the watch’s dedicated app for smartphones – show us a glimpse of what the smartwatch would look like. Unlike the OnePlus Watch, which had a round dial, the Nord Watch will get a rectangular Apple Watch-esque design with a crown on the right side.
