Samsung is very keen to keep full control over the Android tablet market, and has announced it’ll be holding a “Galaxy Premier” event in mid-June, where we should expect even more slates to be revealed. Although the invitation doesn’t explicitly say it’ll be for tablets, the tagline is “Tab into Color,” and as we know, Samsung uses the Tab name on various models already.
Hold on though, we’ve already been introduced to the new Galaxy Tab 4 range, why would Samsung want to hold another event doing the same thing? The answer may be found in a series of recent leaks, which refer to a new range of Galaxy Tab devices, currently known as the Galaxy Tab S.
Why the emphasis on color? There are two possible reasons. The first is the tablets may come in some pretty hues, while the second links to the Galaxy Tab S range coming with AMOLED touchscreens. Known for their bright, realistic color reproduction, this could be the approach Samsung will take to market the Tab S models following their announcement.
The rumors say we should expect at least two Tab S tablets, one with an 8.4-inch screen, and the other with a 10.5-inch display. The resolution could be identical on both, and run as high as 2560 x 1600, matching Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Pro line. A fingerprint sensor may also be installed, allowing for a clever multi-user login system to be used.
Unusually, Samsung may not choose to use a Qualcomm chip this time around, but instead may pair an Intel modem with one of its own octa-core Exynos processors. Other possible specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4, and a choice of Wi-Fi or 4G LTE connectivity.
This is all speculation at the moment though, so be prepared for everything to change once Samsung gets the Premier event underway. It’ll take place in New York on June 12, and we’ll bring all the news from it on the day.
