We still have just over a month until Transformers: Age Of Extinction arrives in theaters, but director Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures are making sure the ol’ robots in disguise aren’t far from our thoughts with a trio of new teasers that debuted on television this week.
Of the three TV spots, two feature Autobot leader Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) front and center, with the first depicting how mechanic Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) came into contact with the Transformer — and the mysterious groups of humans and robots that paid him a destructive visit as a result of that encounter. After a narrator ominously states that “The age of the Transformer is over,” the clip concludes with a scene featuring Grimlock — the Transformer modeled on a prehistoric Tyrannosaurus Rex — charging at Optimus, only to be batted aside.
The second TV spot also features Optimus Prime, but seems intended to describe the anti-Transformer sentiment among humans that sets the stage for Age Of Extinction. After Optimus Prime can be heard saying, “A greater threat is coming,” the spot features a few brief shots of the mysterious, new Transformers who begin wreaking havoc on Earth. The spot also includes a fandom-friendly shot of Grimlock breathing fire.
The third spot puts more of the focus on the human characters in Age Of Extinction, particularly Wahlberg’s character and his family, who become embroiled in the latest battle in the war between the Autobots and their enemies. And just in case anyone forgets what sort of movie this is, the preview closes with a shot of Optimus Prime riding Grimlock into battle.
Transformers: Age Of Extinction hits theaters June 27 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Li Bingbing, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, T. J. Miller, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, and Titus Welliver, as well as voice actors Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, John Goodman, Ken Watanabe, and John DiMaggio.
