12-day marathon of every Simpsons episode ever created begins today on FXX

You don’t have anything important to do for the next week or so, do you? Because FXX has your next 12 days booked — especially if you’re already a fan of The Simpsons.

The Fox-owned network is kicking off a marathon of every episode of The Simpsons ever created — all 552 episodes and the feature-length film from 2007 — today, August 21, at 10am. The marathon will  conclude 12 days later on September 1 at 11:30pm.

Dubbed the “#EverySimpsonsEver Marathon,” the ambitious event is expected to set a new record for the longest-running marathon in television history — as long as Sideshow Bob doesn’t sabotage it, of course. The marathon also heralds the arrival of regularly syndicated Simpsons episodes on FXX that will kick off the day after the marathon ends. In October 2014, a Simpsons World app will also be available for various devices that will have every episode of the series and a library of quotes and clips.

FXX has provided a full schedule of the Simpsons marathon in PDF form — just in case you want to make sure you’re conscious for particular episodes — which culminates with the recent 25th season finale, “The Yellow Badge Of Cowardge.”

Got a favorite episode? It’s on there. Want to watch every “Treehouse of Horror” special? Set your alarm. Interested in seeing one of Conan O’Brien’s greatest contributions to television history? Tune in Friday, August 22, at 9pm for “Marge vs. The Monorail” (with special guest Leonard Nimoy and this song, sung by the late, great Phil Hartman).

In the lead-up to Disney+, Disney bragged that its streaming service would contain the complete 30-season run of The Simpsons. As it turns out, that’s not quite true. One episode, which features a guest appearance from pop singer Michael Jackson, does not appear on Disney+.

“Stark Raving Dad,” which first aired in 1991 as The Simpsons’ third season premiere, is not available on Disney’s brand-new service. When watching The Simpsons on Disney+, the show jumps from “Blood Feud,” the second season finale, to “Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington,” the second episode of the third season.

The Simpsons on Disney+

With the launch of Disney+, every single episode of The Simpsons’ 30-year run is finally available to stream in one easily accessible place. While Fox tried to create an ad-supported Simpsons-centric streaming site for cable subscribers called Simpsons World, the classic animated sitcom can now reach a much larger streaming audience via Disney+.

For younger audiences who didn’t grow up with The Simpsons and have never been able to easily stream it, Disney+
might be their first exposure to the classic era. According to Bill Oakley, who wrote for the show starting in 1992 before eventually taking over as showrunner with fellow writer Josh Weinstein for the seventh and eight seasons, Disney+ might change the way kids consume The Simpsons.

While Nimona has been the big Netflix original animated film of the summer, it's far from the only addition to the lineup. However, Netflix's biggest recent addition is one of 2022's biggest animated hits: DreamWorks' Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Netflix's deals with Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks Animation, and Universal Pictures have given it a powerhouse library of animated films. And that's before we even get into Netflix's impressive originals like The Sea Beast. To help you keep track of what's new and what you can stream right now, we've updated our list of the best animated movies on Netflix.
