Bentley planning Mulsanne ‘Azure’ Convertible alongside forthcoming Mulsanne Speed

Last week, we reported that Bentley confirmed it would soon be unveiling a Mulsanne Speed with more torque than the San Andreas Fault.

Now Automotive News is reporting that Bentley has also confirmed that it is working on a Mulsanne Convertible, which it will call Azure.

The Mulsanne Convertible concept isn’t new. In fact, it was originally shown to an exclusive group of Bentley owners at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. However, after then-Bentley head Wolfgang Duerheimer left to work for Audi, newly appointed Bentley CEO Wolfgang Schreiber put the project on ice.

Once again, however, one Wolfgang has been replaced with the other Wolfgang. And now Duerheimer has once again green-lit the range-topping ‘vert, in order to compete with the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost Drophead and the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Cabriolet.

Without having driven or even seen the Azure, I can already tell you it’ll be the best looking one in the bunch and perhaps, if paired with the Speed’s cornucopia of torque, also the most fun to drive. We’ll have to wait and see, though.
