LG sets Guinness World Record for largest outdoor advertisement

Whether it’s Apple boasting about the measures it takes to ensure its users’ privacy, or T-Mobile bragging about its achievements, companies love to place certain things on a pedestal for all to see. LG went down a decidedly non-traditional route by announcing that it set a world record for “the largest outdoor advertising structure.”

The structure in question, a billboard advertising the LG G3, is 240 meters wide and 12 meters high. In total, we’re looking at 3,000 square meters of pure G3 advertisement bliss. The billboard reportedly took 1,800 tons of steel to make, since LG had to design it in a way that would allow the billboard to withstand harsh winds and whipped up desert sands.

The billboard is placed near the King Khalid International Airport, where around 20 million people per year fly in and out. Because of its tactical placement, LG expects the billboard to bring in an extra $25 million per year in revenue. Seeing how big the billboard is, that figure might not come across as a surprise for many.

Thankfully, while the billboard currently advertises the G3, the company could plan to use the billboard for other products in the future. It’d certainly be a shame for a 3,000 square meter advertisement to only be able to promote the G3 in 2017, to say the least.

LG’s minimalist concept phone is a thing of beauty
lg concept smartphone raindrop news phone

LG hasn’t been known for its groundbreaking smartphone designs recently, but this is set to change in the future as the company gives us a peek at what it’s working on next. The company has published a set of conceptual drawings that depict an unnamed upcoming smartphone, and it’s considerably more attractive than the recent LG G8X ThinQ.

There are two key design features highlighted in the drawings -- a so-called Raindrop camera array, and a new 3D Arc Design body shape. Starting with the body, LG says the 3D Arc Design will make the phone much more comfortable to hold than previous models thanks to symmetrically curved edges. This reduces the number of sharp angles, and improves the visual style of the phone, according to the company.

The dual-screen LG G8X ThinQ launches on November 1 for just $700

Two screens on a regular smartphone? That's what LG's G8X ThinQ Dual Screen is promising. It's similar to the dual-screen attachment LG showed off at MWC 2019 on the V50 ThinQ, but there have been a lot of changes to improve this new version over the first, and it has made it a considerably more interesting solution to our modern multi-tasking woes.

But a dual-screen accessory isn't the only new feature with the LG G8X ThinQ. From an ASMR mode to a 32-megapixel selfie camera, here’s everything you need to know about it.
The phone
The LG G8X ThinQ is a revised version of the LG G8, also released earlier this year. The design is identical, so it has a smooth, lightweight body that’s warm to the touch. It weighs 192 grams and is 8.8mm thick. On the front is a 6.4-inch OLED screen with a small teardrop notch at the top, and it has an FHD+ resolution. The screen also contains a fingerprint sensor, similar to Samsung's Galaxy S10 range.

I record interviews for work. These are my favorite free recorder apps

Before you head to the app store on your phone to buy a voice-recording app, take a moment to consider the apps that may already be installed on your phone. Why? In my experience, they're likely all you really need. I’ve recorded interviews and voice-overs for work for years, and I’ve found the two best examples come preinstalled on your phone already, so they’re entirely free to use.
