Sony will hold an event in New York on October 9, where it could launch the latest Xperia smartphones, revealed earlier this year at the IFA show in Berlin. Sony has an extensive range of desirable mobile products for the second half of 2014, and it will be great to see them all come to America. It’ll be even better if they have extensive network support too.
The invitations don’t tell us what the focus of the event will be, but we’re told to “Demand Great,” which is the tagline being used to promote the Xperia line-up in the countries where they’ve already been officially announced. It makes sense the company will continue the trend elsewhere.
Sony has four exciting new mobile devices in its arsenal, and all could be shown on October 9. The Xperia Z3 smartphone is almost guaranteed to be there, because we already know it has been picked up for sale in the U.S. by T-Mobile. It could be joined by its slightly smaller cousin, the Xperia Z3 Compact, although it was absent from T-Mobile’s announcement. There’s a chance, seeing as Sony’s going to the trouble of having an event, both phones could be sold through more than one network too.
The two Z3 smartphones may be joined by the excellent Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, a smaller, lighter, and more powerful update to the Xperia Z2 Tablet. It was one of our favorites from IFA, and we would like to see it get a wide release in America. Finally, there is a strong possibility Sony’s SmartWatch 3 could launch alongside the new smartphones. It’s a distinct improvement over previous Sony wearables, thanks to the introduction of Android Wear as its operating system.
Sony’s October 9 event is scheduled to last for 90 minutes, therefore more than one new product seems likely. However, it won’t have the week’s headlines all to itself. The day before Sony’s gathering, HTC will also hold a New York event, where new camera hardware is expected.
