The Motorola Droid Turbo is finally here. The new phone represents the continuation of Verizon’s Droid line of smartphones and sports a Quad HD display. Based on some leaked internal Verizon documents we saw earlier this month, we knew that the Droid Turbo would pack some serious heat when it launched, but now we know all the details from the press release.
The Droid Turbo packs a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel display, giving the panel an eye-watering 565ppi (pixels per inch). The handset is powered by a Snapdragon 805 clocked at 2.7GHz, which looks to be paired with 3GB of RAM. The Turbo is available with 32 or 64GB of storage. You’ll find a 21-megapixel camera around back with dual LED flash that’s capable of shooting 4K video. To help the Droid Turbo get through the day is its whopping 3900mAh battery. Motorola says if you charge it for 15 minutes, you’ll get an extra eight hours of battery life — hence the name Turbo.
The Motorola handset’s design is pretty striking, with a metal frame hugging the Droid Turbo and Kevlar providing some reinforcement. In late October, noted leaker @evleaks posted a picture of the Droid Turbo on Twitter that shows both the red and black color variants. It turns out that @evleaks was on the money again. The Droid Turbo will be available in red and black color options. It’s made of ballistic nylon (military spec) and metalized glass fiber to make it durable and water resistant.
Additionally, the Droid Turbo supports Verizon’s XLTE network, with the handset taking full advantage of the service within 30-90 days of its launch. The Droid Turbo will start at $200 with a two-year contract, but the 64GB version will cost $250 when it arrives in stores on October 30. You can learn all about it on Verizon’s website.
